BRMS’ Project Africa Buddy program going strong

RUSHVILLE — Pictured are several of the Project Africa Buddy class representatives and a portion of the pennies that they have been instrumental in helping to collect from their classmates for our two Africa Buddies that the Benjamin Rush Middle School Social Studies Department sponsors. Project Africa Buddy started back in the spring of 2001, with BRMS social studies classes “adopting” a young boy from Ethiopia (Regan). Within a couple of years, we were able to adopt a second child - a young girl from Kenya (Sopilal). Over the years, BRMS students have enjoyed corresponding with the two children, learning about their lives, families and cultures. Both Regan and Sopilal are so appreciative of the support and love shown to them by BRMS students. With the generosity and compassion shown from students in letter writing, along with the collecting of box tops and monetary donations, middle school students have raised well over $12,000 in support of their two Africa Buddies.
