Rushville Republican

---- — First Baptist Church

Many of us have been glued to our televisions or computer screens off and on over the last several weeks. We wanted to know what the weather forecast was going to be. Would there be snow or rain, frigid temperatures or warmer ones, dry ground or even flooding as snow quickly melted? Weather forecasting is not a precise science, but we can somewhat discern what the weather will be.

Jesus said there is something much more important, though, than discerning the weather--discerning the times in which we live. There are significant things happening that we will not see or be ready for, unless we can discern the spiritual “weather.” How can you become better at discerning the times? That is what we will be talking about at First Baptist Church this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Would you consider joining us? We would love to see you!

Our spiritual Resolutions

New Years is a time of new resolutions. Have you ever thought of your spiritual resolutions? We usually don’t, but God sure does. Say to yourself, “All of me in twenty-fourteen.” All of us at one time or another has felt like one person through the week while at church we feel like another. We get a reputation of being a “hypocrite.” God wants us through the week as well as on Sundays. He wants us to lay down those nagging sins, like the lust, gossip, anger, pride, addictions, grudges, whatever sin is separating you from your Father needs to go.

We need to obey because God’s word tells us right from wrong. As a parent we tell our children what is best for them. God’s no different with us.

He is only interested in what is best for us. He deserves our commitment as well. I Timothy 4:7-8 (NLT) reads, “Do not waste time arguing over Godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be Godly. Physical training is good, but training for Godliness is much better promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” Please join us at PCCC as we listen to what’s best for our “spiritual resolutions” for 2014. God Bless.
