Plum Creek Christian Church

Our Family Life Minister Zach Korff told us a story about his wrestling career. While it was his dream to be on the wrestling team he had suffered an injury to the hip that left him with a staph infection. The doctor had ordered him not to wrestle. So he decided to be the team manager. As fate would have it a guy on the team was out and the coach (who was unaware of Zach’s injury) let him practice. After losing several matches Zach kept persisting and beat the kid.

We find a similar story of a man named Jacob in the book of Genesis. Jacob also did not give up on what he wanted. He was in love with a girl named Rachel that he wanted to marry. Her father agreed to the marriage on one condition. Jacob had to work for him for seven years first. He agreed. The problem was the man had an older daughter. He wanted her married first so he tricked Jacob into marrying her. He then had to work seven more years to marry the woman of his dreams. Jacob did some wrestling himself. While praying to God to protect him and his family from the anger of his older brother something spectacular happened. A man out of nowhere comes and starts physically wrestling him. After an all night wrestling match Jacob’s opponent decided he could not overpower him so he touched the socket of his hip and instantly crippled him. Jacob realized then his opponent was God himself. Jacob then asked God for his blessing before he would go.

Do you desire blessings from God. The lesson here is to not give up. God wants to bless your dreams. God wants you to persevere and not give up. Your blessing may be just around the corner. When you make God the Lord of your life he will reward your persistence in seeking him. Join us next week for more about how to live for Christ. It will be a blessing.
