Third Annual Gospel Sing Sept. 7

The 2013 Third Annual Gospel Sing will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Rushville Riverside Park Amphitheater. This year’s Gospel Sing is expected to run approximately two hours. At the conclusion, Holy Communion will be offered to all those that wish to partake.

Come early, bring a picnic dinner, lawn chairs and even blankets if there will be a chill in the air.

This Ecumenical service is a non-denominational program with local performers from the area. The Gospel Sing is free and the public is invited and encouraged to attend this uplifting event.

Riverside Park Amphitheater is a premier outdoor venue located at 100 West Water Street in Rushville. Parking is conveniently available in gravel lots or in surrounding business. Special handicap parking is also available.

Church bells ring for FAS

The Knightstown Women’s Christian Temperance Union remind us that each year on Sept. 9 at 9:09 a.m., bells ring to sound the alarm about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), the leading birth defect in the U.S. Bells will ring in Rushville.

FAS is the leading known cause of preventable mental retardation. The effects of FAS last a lifetime. Primary disabilities include lower IQ, impaired ability in reading and arithmetic and a lower level of adoptive functioning. FAS is entirely preventable when pregnant women abstain from drinking alcohol throughout their entire pregnancy.

The following churches will be ringing their bells: Center Christian Church, Main Street Christian Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist, First Presbyterian and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Thanks to those who faithfully ring their bells on Sept. 9 each year.
