Plum Creek Christian Church
In Acts chapter 6 Stephen was full of God’s grace and power and did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. When opposition from other religious leaders came against the teachings of Jesus they began to argue with Stephen. These men tried to stop Stephen just as they did Jesus before him. Verse 10 tells us, “They could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.” They secretly plotted against him and stirred up the elders and teachers of the law. Doesn’t this also sound a lot like the society we live in? If we believe in Jesus we too seem to be persecuted for our beliefs. Why is it the government seems to have no tolerance for those who follow the teachings of Jesus?
Take heart Christ followers. Jesus has overcome the world. When you come into contact with unbelievers let the Holy Spirit also speak for you. That is the only way your words will have any impact. Just like Jesus, Stephen wanted others to witness the life changing salvation that comes from following Jesus. Think about what the followers of Jesus had to endure. If they were not 100% convinced Jesus was who he said he was would they intentionally put their lives in jeopardy? Don’t be led astray by the unwise ways of this world. If you want to live in heaven instead of hell for all eternity; listen to the Words of Jesus. They are life to the body and health to the soul.
