Hope Spot's Back to School day
Hope Spot’s Second Annual Back to School Day will be from 8 to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
We will be offering backpacks with school supplies for our children going back to school. If you need help with providing these essential items for your children come to St. Paul’s UMC at 426 N. Morgan Street and receive the items that your child(ren) will need.
Hope Spot is St. Paul’s ministry to the community of Rushville. This ministry began years ago known to the community as the Christmas Store. In 2012 St. Paul’s UMC was gifted with a used moving van and a vision to make the concept of the Christmas Store available to the community year round. It is available to those who have suffered a fire or some kind of disaster. We have the ability to take Hope Spot within a 200 mile radius of Rushville to meet the needs of those who suffer from disasters.
We are always accepting gently used clothing that can be shared with those who have a need. If you would like to make a donation (monetary or clothing) please contact St. Paul’s between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday - Friday (932-3777).

It was a beautiful summer Sunday morning as some friends and I gathered at a wooded retreat center for worship. For our time of communion, we were each told to take the bread and juice with us and find a quiet spot alone on the campus in order to meditate and pray. I remembered there was a creek somewhere in the nearby woods, so I set off to find it.
I thought it was just over a hill, but I didn’t realize how slippery the leaves were from the morning dew. As I started to walk down the hill, my feet suddenly shot out from under me and I experienced a bumpy ride as I slid on my rear end quickly down the steep hill on the wet leaves, during which time I tried my best to hold the communion elements out before me in each hand.
