What do you think of when you hear that a family is “healthy”? Personally, I think it’s a united family who has a balance of the right stuff. What does a healthy family look like to you? Let’s spell out F-A-M-I-L-Y and find out what we learn.
F- is for FUN….When was the last time your family literally had fun? Take away all the technology we have today and pay special attention to the quality of time you spend as a family. God created laughter for a reason. “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength”. Proverbs 17:22 (NLT)
A is for ATTENTION….Paying attention to each family member is just as important as spending time together. Find that special personality in your spouse and children and strengthen it, you won’t believe the growth.
M is for MEMORIES….When we spend time alone with our spouse and children what they will recall the most is memories that were made. It’s important to remember, the Bible tells us exactly 160 times! “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them”. Deuteronomy 4:9 (NLT)
I is for INSPIRE….Sometimes it’s hard to inspire if you grew up in a home where you were verbally beaten up or made to feel like you weren’t valuable. Perhaps you’ve been in a marriage where the results were the same. We need to break the cycle and bring new life to our families. “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing”. I Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT)
L is for LOVE….A healthy family loves without condition. In John 13:34-35, Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another”. Let’s be realistic, it’s hard to love like Jesus did but it’s what we need to strive for.
Y is for YIELD….The above things are great but must be done by being 100% yielded to Jesus Christ. These things must start with Christ and be built around Him. This is the best gift we will ever give our children and to our spouse. Are you ready for a new family? Please join us at Plum Creek Christian Church and learn more about what it’s like to part of a church family as well. God bless!
