---- — The Rushville City Parks Board met earlier this week and set rental fees for the recently renovated and improved shelter house located in Laughlin Park. As a result of the improvements, and acting on a recommendation by parks director Danny Mathews, board members voted to increase rental fee for the building from $25 to $100.

According to Mathews, the building has a capacity of 120 and the increase will help offset electricity, water bills and place the rental fee in line with similar sized local venues. As previously reported in the Rushville Republican, the majority of the improvements - indoor restrooms, running water, heat and central air, — were accomplished by city street employees.

In other matters, the election of board officers was held. Aaron Gurley was elected president and will be assisted by vice president Paul Barada and secretary David Malson during the coming year.

Board members next finalized plans for the Valentine dance. The annual Parks and Recs board sponsored event is a free event which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at Benjamin Rush Middle School and is open to all middle school students.

Carla Sharp was next to address the board and said all the acts for the 2014 Riverside Park Amphitheater concert series have been booked and that sponsor packs will be sent out in the coming days. The annual announcement party for the concert series will be held Jan. 29 at a yet undisclosed location.
