NARFE met in August

Rushville Republican

---- — Chapter 0813 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees met on Aug. 20 at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Greensburg for its monthly meeting. The meeting was opened by president Eva Stone welcoming those present and followed by Kay Hineman leading the group with the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation.

For the monthly program president Stone introduced Martha Risk from Conway Tours and Travel in Columbus. Ms. Risk started her business more than 20 years ago and plans trips/tours for groups and individuals. They have taken group tours all over the U.S. and throughout the world, whether by plane, cruise ship or luxury motorcoach. She stated they have several tours left for this year that include locations in Europe, Ireland, Canada and several locations in the U.S.

Ms. Risk started a Mystery Trip of eight days at least once a year to somewhere in the U.S. Participants have no idea where they are going and the trip has become a favorite for many of her repeat customers and newcomers. The last mystery trip was to sites in Tennessee and Georgia. The last stop on this trip was in Nashville. Tenn., with one stop on the tour to the RCA Studio B where the group recorded the Elvis song “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” in the same room where Elvis recorded many of his songs. Afterwards each individual received their own CD copy (I imagine that will become a treasured keepsake being played many times in the future.) They have a Mystery Trip planned for this October. As Ms. Risk goes on many of the tours, she strives to make all her tours the best they can be. She stated the business is on the internet at Conwaytoursindiana.com. Thanks to Ms. Risk for her presentation and had many chapter members signing up for her mailing list.

Following the program, a business meeting was held with the secretary’s minutes and treasurer’s report being read and approved. Other chapter business had the legislative officer, service officer and other committee reports given.

The attendance prize was won by Frank Pezdek. Birthdays of Tony Meo and Richard Wagner’s father of 89 years young were acknowledged with the singing of Happy Birthday.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Greensburg with optional lunch following the meeting.

If you are a retired employee or currently an active employee and have an interest in attending chapter meetings, join us at our next meeting.
