RHS / RCHS Alumni unite

The 56th Annual Alumni Association meeting was held June 22 and hosted by the Rushville Elks. The meeting was brought to order by John McCane ‘83, association president. The invocation was given by Kenny Earnest ‘63. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Paul Barada ‘63. After the Pledge, President McCane gave the welcome and announcements. A delicious meal was prepared and served by the Elks. The treasurer’s report was given by Cindy Ellis Pavey ‘76. The secretary’s report was made available by Anita Spurlin Simpson ‘71.

Introductions and recognition of classes followed. The awards for $1,000 scholarships were presented by David Payne ‘83. Recipients included: John Riddell, son of Charles Riddell and Jean Mauzy ‘80, who plans to attend Purdue University for Business Management; Taylor Gilbert, daughter of John ‘80 and Jenni Gilbert ‘87, who plans to attend the University of Indianapolis for Physical Therapy; and Kyle Hoeing, son of Gary ‘85 and Rose Hoeing ‘86, who plans to attend University of Southern Indiana for Public Relations.

The 50 year class was introduced and celebrated in a speech by Pat Badell ‘63. At the conclusion of his speech Paul Barada Jr. ‘90, Will Barada ‘93 and Jon Barada ‘95 entered the room to present their father, Paul William Barada ‘63, the Bob Waggener Senior Distinguished Alumni Award. Barada was recognized for his distinguished professional career, being the founder and chairman of the board of Barada Associates, Inc., one of the few professional reference checking services in the United States, a business that Barada started in 1979 and has always been run from his office in Rushville. Barada was also applauded for his community service record which has earned him such titles as “Most Influential Man of the 1980’s”, the Chamber of Commerce “Outstanding Citizen” in 1993 and in 1996 he was appointed the highest honor that the Governor of Indiana bestows “Council of the Sagamores of the Wabash” by Governor Evan Bayh.
