Rush County Genealogical Society schedules exciting programs

RUSHVILLE — The Rush County Genealogical Society had its first two meetings of the new year. Plans are under way for scheduling a year of exciting programs and projects. Keep looking for information as plans are finalized. We wish to extend an invitation to the community to join us at our meetings the 2nd Saturday of each month at Elks Lodge, 11:00 a.m. You can also find us on Facebook and our website

Officers and elected positions for 2013 are: President – Carol Jones, Vice-President – Bill Baetz, Secretary – Katrina Cooper, Treasurer – Susan Huston, Historian – Karen Pruet.

Reflecting over the past year, RCGS would like to share its 2012 projects and accomplishments:

l Rushville Public Library: Help preserve local genealogy and historical books and printed materials; assist in maintaining the local history and genealogy in the Indiana room

l Presented a copy of our book on Civil War soldiers of Rush County (“Let Us Die to Make Men Free”) to the Rush County Historical Society

l RCGS Newsletter: Published a quarterly newsletter

l Rush County Marriage Books: Transcribed and published Marriage Book 12 (1887-1888) located at the courthouse

l East Hill Cemetery 100th Anniversary: Participated in the cemetery’s June celebration of the cemetery

l Donated $200 to the Elks’ Clothe-A-Child program at Christmas

l Special Programs: April – DNA and genealogy research by Jim Huston; November – Rush County history in photos by Linda Mahan

l Ongoing Projects: Collect and preserve the genealogical history of Rush County families; Document and publish burials at all Rush County cemeteries; Provide assistance in genealogical queries presented to RCGS.
