NARFE met in March

RUSHVILLE — Chapter 0813 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees met on March 19 at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Greensburg for its monthly meeting. The meeting was opened by welcoming those present and followed with Kay Hineman leading the group with the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation.

For the monthly program, Keith Kaffenburger, computer systems technician for the Greensburg Public Library, gave a program on the EverGreen Indiana System. He explained that the EverGreen system consists of 101 libraries across Indiana with combined items available of over 6.6 million of which are 2.8 million bibliographic entries. The 101 libraries collaborate by pooling resources, so if your library does not have the item you requested, the system is checked and if available at another library, it will be sent to your library within 7-14 days for you to check out. Some advantages of the Evergreen Consortium are increased access to resources, you can check out and return materials to any Evergreen System library and there are no extra fees for using the system. He also stated that DVDs are not part of the system due to increased staff required to process these materials. Thanks to Mr. Kaffenberger for his very informative program.

Following the program, a business meeting was held with the secretary and treasurer’s reports being read and approved. Other chapter business included the legislative officer, service officer and other committee reports given.

The attendance prize was won by Hazel Schuck.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. April 16 at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Greensburg with optional lunch following the meeting.

If you are a retired federal employee or currently an active employee and have an interest in attending chapter meetings, join us at our next meeting.
