Rotary gets basketball update

RUSHVILLE — The Rushville Rotary Club met Nov. 26 in the conference center at Rush Memorial Hospital.

President Dr. John Williams called the meeting to order. Jim Finan led the Pledge of Allegiance. Valerie Wilson provided an opening prayer.

Several Rotarians participated in Brag for a Buck.

Theresa Alexander bragged that her entire family managed to get together for Thanksgiving. Nancy Rice bragged on Purdue for beating IU. Julie Dragoo paid $1 to announce the annual RMH-sponsored purse auction will take place April 26. Jim Finan bragged that his son and daughter-in-law are going to adopt a child. Jason Clemmons bragged on the renovations underway at the Rush County Chamber of Commerce office. Bill Griffis bragged on the Colts and on the fact he’s now offering consulting services with respect to Social Security and Medicaid. Chip West boasted about his son’s upcoming graduation from IU and the fact he already has a job lined up. Dr. Fred Philips bragged that both of his sons were home for Thanksgiving. Lastly, Shelly King bragged about a nice Thanksgiving with family and friends that included Skyping in guests who were unable to make it.

Dr. J reminded everyone about the annual Christmas party Dec. 3 at the 201 Building and encouraged attendance by one and all. He also reported that the Madrigals will be performing for the club Dec. 11.

To finish out the meeting, program chair John Worth introduced RCHS boys basketball coach Brian Bowen, who is serving in that capacity for the third year.

Bowen said he and the other coaches are excited about this year’s season and pleased with the direction the program is headed. He also noted this year’s team is young and fairly inexperienced but that the kids are coming along nicely. Coach Bowen invited everyone to come see the Lions in action and to check out the recently renovated Memorial Gym while they’re at it. The gym floor has been redone and there’s new lighting. The coach finished by pointing out RCHS is leaving the Hoosier Heritage Conference next year to become part of the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference. He indicated he thinks this is a good move for Rushville and said he’s looking forward to playing more schools closer to Rushville’s size.
