Workshop Series for "Who Get's Grandma's Yellow Pie Plate?™"

A two-part workshop is planned to allow Rush County families to experience the award winning program from University of Minnesota Extension “Who Get’s Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate?™” Scheduled for Monday, Nov. 11 and Monday, Nov. 18, the workshops are ideal for multiple generations to experience together. Starting each night at 6 p.m., the sessions will be held in the Assisted Living Dining Room of Miller’s Merry Manor, 612 E. 11th Street, Rushville.

Planning ahead for inheritance versus waiting until a crisis or death is beneficial to families. When they plan ahead, families have more choices, a chance for thoughtful communication, and fewer family conflicts.

To avoid common obstacles family members should:

• Recognize the sensitivity of the issue.

• Determine what you want to accomplish.

• Decide what’s “fair” for your family.

• Understand belongings have different meanings to different individuals.

• Consider distribution options and consequences.

• Agree to manage conflicts if they arise.

The award winning book, Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate?™ Workbook (booklet or interactive CD) provides a positive planning process to transfer non-titled property. The workbook is based on research with families and attorneys and is designed to help overcome common inheritance decision-making obstacles. Whether planning ahead or making decisions when someone dies, the workbook is a must-read. It is a step-by-step guide filled with worksheets, practical suggestions, proven strategies, and real-life stories.

One workbook per family is recommended for those taking part in the workshop, but is also beneficial for families on their own. The workbook can be ordered through www.yellowpieplate.umn.edu at the $17 cost. A limited number will be available through the Rush County Extension Office at a discounted rate of $10. Call 932-5974 to request a copy.

To reserve a spot in the workshop please notify the Extension Office by Monday, Nov. 4. The registration fee is just $10 per family, so bring everyone. Checks should be made out to Purdue CES-Rush County and can be sent to 101 E 2nd Street, Room 103, Courthouse, Rushville, Indiana, 46173. Purdue University is an equal opportunity/equal access/affirmation action university. If you have special needs, please call us two weeks prior to the meeting. Questions – contact Extension Educator Gracie Marlatt at 932-5974.
