Eleanor Columbe and Jenni Philpot represented Zeta Tau Chapter, Milroy, as delegates at the Psi Iota Xi National Convention of Psi Iota Xi held June 28-30 in Indianapolis. Past national president Carolyn Logsdon, Mary Ann Crisman and Nicki Hall also attended as non-delegates.
Psi Iota Xi meets annually to vote on charitable contributions to be distributed nationally. This past year, Psi Iota Xi established a new long term project that will result in donations of more than $100,000 to the University of Toledo Intensive Stuttering Clinic program for adolescents and adults. The last two long term projects include an endowed professorship at Indiana University School of Medicine/Riley Hospital and Cleft Palate Research at the University of Illinois.
The theme for the convention was, “All Aboard the Psi Ote Express” and attendees celebrated the accomplishments of this charitable organization led by Kim Crawley, national president of Greensburg.
The welcome party, “Ride the Train to the Wild, Wild West!” on Friday evening was sponsored by Zeta Tau Chapter with 15 members present.
Annually Psi Iota Xi donates nearly one million dollars to art, music, literature and speech and hearing projects. Locally, members of the Zeta Tau Chapter raise funds through a 5K run/walk, maintaining the parking of the local Pioneer Steam Engine Show, Rada knives, a special Ponderosa night and a spring flower sale. They support a scholarship for a RCHS senior planning to major in Speech and Hearing or the Fine Arts, a community Clothe-a-Child project, Milroy Elementary’s Fine Arts classes including the school library, and the annual Summer Reading program for children at the school’s library.
