On Oct. 27, Jackson Township School community building welcomed many former students, teachers and friends for a reunion.
This year is the 22nd year various alumni have gathered here. The pitch-in started at 12:30 p.m. following a blessing. A good meal was enjoyed by all. Following the meal an entertaining meeting was held.
Steve Ward served as the emcee and Kay Wood challenged those attending with a fun IQ game. Everyone received high marks!
Those receiving additional recognition were: Mrs. Mary Alice Kaiser, former Jackson teacher; Shirley (Hanson) Bruns, Scottsdale, Ariz., traveled farthest; Jack Hanson, alumni photographer; Lois (Fancher) Liggett, oldest student attending; Reno Gosser, celebrating his 80th birthday.
There was also a special recognition of Kay Wood and the wonderful work she has done in promoting the Jackson reunion during the year. Kay and her husband, Glen, decorate the tables and room each year and do an outstanding job. This year’s decorations were highlighted by a bewitching display on top of the case that holds Jackson School’s memorabilia.
During the meeting a suggestion was made by Sharon Turner, wife of Lynn Turner, to encourage more former students from the 1960s. The 1950s are well represented and those in attendance were asked to bring their “Jackson” children from the 1960s and 1970s.
We would like to invite anyone who enjoys good food and fellowship to join us for these reunions. You don’t have to be an alumni to attend. Our former adversaries in basketball, such as Webb or Mays schools are talked about often; so come and defend yourselves.
Hopefully we will see more of the younger generation and our friends from the different county schools next year. So, get out your 2014 calendar and mark the last Sunday in October: Oct. 28, 2014.
