Homemakers On the Go

RUSHVILLE — Thirteen members of Homemakers On the Go, Rush County extension club, met Oct. 23 at the Henry Henley Public Library. Members answering roll call by naming their preferred Halloween treat were; Ann Reddick, Claire Mercer, Abby Wehr, Judy Barnes, Pat Newport, Rita Leisure, Dianna Nash, Patty Bundy, Carolyn Lewis, Jo Buckley, Barb Proctor, Becky Prather and Judy Neal. President Abby Wehr welcomed guests Sue Bearhope, Joan Browning, Eula Mae Wencke and Tracy Wencke to the meeting. The Homemakers’ Creed was repeated by all.

Minutes of the September meeting were read and approved and the treasurer’s report was given with current expenditures and new balance approved.

Rita Leisure related that four from our club attended the Rush County Achievement Night Oct. 2 and enjoyed a delicious meal and interesting program.

Plans for a Christmas Party at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 were discussed. Barbara Proctor graciously extended an invitation to entertain at her home for this event. Members will bring a wrapped imaginative item to be used in games that evening. Each will also bring a covered dish of their choice to share.

President Abby Wehr has received a letter from the Mental Health Assn. stating the need of our club’s help during the holidays. A motion was made and approved to send a donation.

Health and safety chair Pat Newport clarified the meaning of the term “Organic” when related to products we may select as part of our family’s diet. Tip for gardening: Use pepper on and around plants to repel many bugs and animals.

Claire Mercer, cultural arts chair told of visiting the home of poet, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, near Dayton, Ohio. She read one of his works, “We Wear the Mask.”

The lesson, “Sleep Soundly” was given by Barb Proctor.

Ann Reddick also showed one of the handmade dolls which was completed by members of her doll club recently.

Jo Buckley read an inspirational piece reminding us to be appreciative of the precious rights we enjoy in this country as assured in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

Delicious refreshments were served by Ann Reddick and Becky Prather.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 and will be a pitch-in.
