Carol A. “Buttons” Clemons, 78, a Rushville resident since 1958, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Rush Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 16, 1934, in Elkhart, to Luke J. and Hilda (Walker) Shantz. Carol was a 1952 graduate of Elkhart High School and attended Ball State University. She married Harold Clemons June 17, 1961; he survives.
Carol worked many years with Public Paint & Wallpaper, painting and papering many homes. She worked with the Girl Scouts Treaty Line Council for over 30 years. Carol was a caregiver to many and to many people’s pets, taking care of them as if they were her own. Carol was an avid fan of many types of sports, from AAU ball to Indiana Fever ball. She was very active in participating in leagues throughout her lifetime. She was a fixture on many bowling, softball, golf and volleyball leagues. Carol enjoyed walking, being involved and staying active.
In addition to her husband, Harold, of Rushville, she is survived by a sister, Norma Glore of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Margie Clemons of Milroy; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lester Shantz.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23 at Moster Mortuary in Rushville with Rev. Dena Vittorio presiding. Friends are welcome to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Hurst Cemetery, Rush County.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheehan Cancer Center, First Presbyterian Church, Rushville Public Library, Girl Scouts of America or the donor’s favorite charity.
