---- — Charles Dale Simpkins, 94, a long time Rush County resident, passed away Nov. 15, 2013, in Rushville. He was born on Nov. 29, 1918, in Fayette County-Harrison Township to Albert and Bertha (Swift) Simpkins.

Dale was a 1937 graduate of Harrisburg High School. He enlisted in the US Army/Air Force shortly after graduation. Dale was a Corporal and served during WW II. He attained the rank of Corporal, spent time in the Marianna Islands, received three silver stars and a good conduct medal all while serving his country during WW II. He married Edna Hubbell on June 26, 1943, and she survives.

Dale came back to Fayette County after service and farmed many years. In 1967, he went to work for Crown-Zellerbach (Print Pak) in Greensburg and worked there for 18 years. He was a long time member of Little Flatrock Christian Church and 65 year member of the Harrisburg LOOF.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, Edna, of Rush County, he is survived by sons, James and wife Debra Simpkins of Cicero and Michael and wife Karen Simpkins of Glenwood; daughters, Janice and husband John Morris of Pendleton and Phyllis Jane LaFollette of Noblesville; a brother, Glenn Simpkins of Carmel; grandchildren, John and David LaFollette and Andy and Amanda Simpkins; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marion.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, with Patrick Smith presiding. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. Burial will be in the Lick Creek Cemetery in Fayette County. The Fayette County Veteran's Honor Guard will provide military rites at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Flatrock Christian Church.
