RUSHVILLE — Michael W. Rath, 61, of North Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013 at University Hospital, Indianapolis, from complications while awaiting a liver transplant.
Michael was born June 9, 1952 in Defiance, Ohio. He was the son of Donald R. and Kathleen Koeppe Rath, who survive. He married Michele Raffel April 3, 1993, always celebrated as NCAA Final Four Weekend, in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Michele also survives.
Michael was a 1970 graduate of Fairview High School in Sherwood, Ohio. He received an associate degree in Electrical Engineering from ITT. His passion was sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Mike followed the baseball activities of his younger son, Austin, through his senior year at Jennings County High School. Michael was an electrical engineer at Intat Precision in Rushville before taking early retirement in 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Michele; his parents, Donald and Kathleen Rath of Defiance, Ohio; two sons, Adam (Tacy) Rath of Rushville and Austin Rath of North Vernon; one daughter, Mellissa Rath of Speedway; and one sister, Becky (Dave) Tompkins of Angola.
Michael was preceded in death by two sons, Nathan R. and Aaron M. Rath.
The funeral for Michael will be at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at the funeral home.
