Paul L. Kershner, 85

Paul L. Kershner, 85, passed away June 26, 2013 at IU Health Blackford Community Hospital.

He was born Sept. 7, 1927 in Montpelier to Alfred Kershner Sr. and Lena (Spears) Kershner.

Paul was in the US Navy Seabees from March 16, 1945 until June 16, 1946.

He married Nellie R. (Dardine) Kershner Dec. 15, 1946 in Montpelier.

Paul retired from Dana Corporation in Marion after 31 years of service, where he was the second shift Superintendent. He also drove a charter bus for Summit Coach after retirement for 15 years. He also had driven a Blackford County School Bus as a part-time driver. Co-owner and operator of Kershner Shell Gas Station in Hartford City.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hartford City, where he was a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon, Church Trustee and sang in the choir. He was also a member of Blackford Masonic Lodge #106 F & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne, Mizpah Shriners and Blackford County Shrine Club. He was very active in Shrine Club, where he transported children to Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago for many years. He was a former Hartford City Council member, he delivered Meals on Wheels and he had organized and made many trips to the Shrine Circus transporting children and nursing home residents. He was a member of Dana Camping Club and enjoyed woodworking.

Paul will be sadly missed by his wife, Nellie R. Kershner of Hartford City; daughters, Pauletta J. (husband, Gregory E.) Fisher of Rushville; Pamela A. (husband, Richard A. “Dick”) Tarr of Hartford City; Michelle K. (husband, Gary L.) Blount of Bluffton; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Michael D. Kershner; brothers, Harry Kershner, Hershel Kershner, Alfred Kershner Jr.; sisters, Blanch Dennis and Naomi Smith.

Funeral service were held Sunday, June 30, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, Hartford City with Rev. Bob A. Wauzzinski officiating. Burial followed in Hartford City Cemetery.
