Helen T. Ewing, 98, a long time Rushville resident, passed away May 14, 2014 in Rushville. She was born Jan. 1, 1916 in West Minster, Vermont. She lived in Holyoke, Massachusetts, until 1946 when she married James Ewing. She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1934. While living in Holyoke, she was office manager of J.J. Newberry Company.
Helen and Jim owned and operated an appliance store in Knightstown for 13 years before coming to Rushville to own and operate J & H Hardware store for 13 years. Helen worked many years for J.M. Frantz Jewelers after closing the hardware store.
Helen was the oldest living member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Rushville. Before retiring, she was a member of the Salvation Army Board. She managed the St. Mary's food pantry for eight years, was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority and the Rushville BPW.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James R. Ewing of Rushville. They were united in marriage on Feb. 16, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Rushville. Rev. Jeremy Greis will preside over the mass. Friends are welcome to visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 16 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. A Rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. Friday afternoon. Burial will be in the Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
