---- — Bonnie Caudill, 93, of Connersville, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Lincoln Centers Healthcare East, where she had been a resident since August 2012.
One of 17 children, she was born Oct. 1, 1920 in Harlan County, Kentucky, the daughter of Leroy and Manerva Mae Eldridge. Bonnie’s parents passed away Jan. 4, 1983 and Jan. 25, 1925, respectively.
On Oct. 10, 1940, she was married in Cornettsville, Ky., to Henry R. Caudill. Mr. Caudill departed from this life on Aug. 8, 2003.
Bonnie lived in Turkey Creek, Letcher County, Ky., while her husband Henry served in the U.S. Army (May 5, 1942 until Jan. 13, 1946) during the Second World War. She was expecting their first child, Charles, when her husband was drafted. She lovingly reared her son and waited, like so many others, for her beloved to return to her – upon Henry’s honorable discharge from the military, Bonnie and her husband resided in Kentucky until the mid 1950s and were blessed with two more sons, George and Jack. Ultimately, they and their family moved to Indiana.
She worked at different times in order to make her family’s lives all the more comfortable. She was employed as an aide in nursing homes for more than 16 years as well as, for a time, a small grocery store, all the while keeping her home and family and being the mother she so enjoyed. Bonnie labored hard raising a garden and cooking for her household. For instance, on most Sundays, she often prepared large meals for all who wanted to come, particularly her own flesh and blood, and was willing to do all she could to help the extended members of her family to get an appropriate start in life – truly, many will cherish the memories around her table and in her home.
She was baptized into the Baptist faith many years ago and was a member of the Everton Southern Baptist Church.
