---- — Dennis “Zeke” Johnson, 61, of Connersville, died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2014, at Reid Hospital, Richmond.

A Fayette County native, Dennis was born Oct. 16, 1952 to Glenn R. and Nina F. Meyers Johnson. He was a 1970 graduate of Connersville High School. On Feb. 3, 1973, Dennis was married in Connersville to the former Vicki L. Byrd. Last year, they celebrated their love and commitment by renewing their marriage vows. Dennis had been employed by TransContinental Systems of Cincinnati as a truck driver. Previously, he worked for H & H Robertson on the assembly line. Dennis retired from Everton Volunteer Fire Department after 27 years of service as Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Instructor. He attended Connersville Baptist Temple and Smyrna Baptist Church of West Harrison. Dennis enjoyed his Yorkshire Terriers and collecting arrowheads.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vicki L. Johnson of Everton; brother, Doug Johnson and his wife Cindy of Williamsburg; sisters, Beth E. “Tilly” Clapp and her husband Rick of Carthage, Amy L. Engle and her husband Gary of Lewisville; uncle, Henry Meyers and his wife Wilma of Connersville; great aunt, Eva Lamott of Richmond; step-mother-in-law, Joan Byrd; brother-in-laws, John Byrd and his wife Darlene of Connersville, Jerry Nichols and his wife Sharon of Indianapolis, Jeff Byrd of Cambridge City; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Cleona Johnson and Clifford and Daisy Meyers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel with Pastor Chuck McMahan of Smyrna Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Orange Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Humane Society.
