Joan F. Butler, 79, of Rushville, passed away Nov. 22, 2013 at IU Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 7, 1934 in Bloomington, a daughter of the late Winfield and Dorothy (Kilmer) Ruble. She married Roy E. Butler on July 8, 1961 and he survives.
Joan was a self-employed artist painting portraits, sketches and water colors at various festivals throughout Indiana. Throughout her career, she was an artist for Hallmark Greeting Cards, Indiana University, National Endowment for the Humanities in Washington D.C., Naval Oceanographic Office in Maryland and the FDIC in Washington D.C. Joan was a 1952 graduate of Peru High School and attended Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, Indiana University and graduated from Charles County Maryland Community College.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years Roy Butler of Rushville; one brother, Paul Ruble of Waycross, Ga.; two sisters, Loretta (Ron) Zimmerman and Lois Chaney both of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory with Warren Engel officiating.
