Thomas Scott Petty, 52, of Indianapolis, unexpectedly passed away May 1, 2013.
He was born March 12, 1961, in Monticello to the parents of Jerry Petty and Linda Downey. He graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1979, excelling in basketball, football and track. Tom was a two-time All-County choice and All-State selection in 1977 and 1978. He was awarded the Marion County Athlete of the Year in 1979.
He also set several school records and lettered in all three sports. He went on to pursue his passion and talent for football at the University of Kentucky, graduating with a degree in Business. His love for the outdoors led him to Colorado and eventually to Nebraska where he started his family and established a successful career. In 2009 he and his family returned to his home state of Indiana.
In life he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending cherished time with his family, especially his children. He was also an avid sports fan and participant. He especially enjoyed attending any high school sporting vvent. He was an extremely personable individual who did not know a stranger.
He is survived by his children, Danielle Raine, Cameron Thomas and their mother, Tara, of Greenwood. He also leaves behind his mother and father, Jerry Petty and Linda Downey, as well as a step mother and step father; sisters, Kari, Debbie, Jessica; and brother, Tim, in addition to several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends.
Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at Greenwood Christian Church. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. at the church. Arrangements by Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Fountaintown.
