Gatha Hutchinson, 96, a lifelong Rush County resident, passed away March 25, 2013, in Rushville.
She was born Feb. 23, 1917, in Bent, Ky. to Virgil and Hester (Childers) Whitaker.
Gatha married Omar S. Hutchinson Oct. 5, 1935; he preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1987.
She worked as a seamstress for 28 years at Schnadig Corporation, retiring in 1979. She was a member of First Church of God in Rushville where she was involved with the W.C.G. group. She also did volunteer work with Miller’s Merry Manor, the Rush County Senior Center, Rush Memorial Hospital Auxilary, Walker Township Conservation Club, Manilla Volunteer Fireman Ladies Auxilary and the Rushville Eagles Ladies Auxilary.
Survivors include a son, William H. and wife Andrea Hutchinson of Syracuse; a daughter, Linda M. and husband Larry Martin of Shelbyville; a sister, Ruby Hauk of Rushville; six grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Howard; a daughter-in-law, Pat Hutchinson; sisters, Ila Smith and Letha Whitaker; a brother, William Whitaker; and a grandson, Howard Hutchinson Jr.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30 at First Church of God in Rushville with Rev.s Garry Jordan and Charles Justice presiding. Friends are welcome to visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Burial will be in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
