Barbara L. Smith, 72, a longtime Rushville resident, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 in Fishers.
Barbara was born Aug. 25, 1940 in Greenfield to the late Paul and Marjorie (Trimble) Walker. She lived her early life in Knightstown and was a 1958 graduate of Knightstown High School.
Barbara married Gene Arnold Smith Jan. 12, 1963; he preceded her in death March 30, 2008. She lived in Indianapolis from 1964 to 1969 and Columbus from 1969 until moving to Rushville in 1978. Barbara was the Treasurer for Rushville Consolidated High School from 1980 to 2005. She and her husband Gene operated Rushview Mobile Home Park from 1974 to 2006 and Smith Paving from 1974 to 2002. Barbara loved spending time with her family, traveling and getting together with her friends. She also enjoyed her monthly classmate luncheons and euchre group and volunteering for different organizations.
Barbara leaves behind a son, Tim Walker and wife Jennifer of Indianapolis; a daughter, Tina Steffey and husband Brett of Fishers; grandchildren, Andrea Powers and husband Anthony, Ali Walker, Austin, MaKenzie and Madi Howard; great-grandson, Levi Powers; step grandchildren, Jason O’Connor and wife Jeannie, Jill Liter and husband Michael and Cameron Steffey; step great-grandchildren, Sydney O’Connor, Maddie and Molly Liter; brother/sister-in-laws, Jayne Akers of Rushville, Dean (Bud) and Blythe Smith of Florida and Debi Walker of Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Walker.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Pastor Richard Thayer presiding. Friends are welcome to visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
