Phyllis Ann (Garriott) Barnard, 87, known to friends and family as "Pg", passed away July 4, 2014 unexpectedly at her home in Yuma, Arizona.
She was born in Connersville on Nov. 4, 1926. She graduated from Hanover College, where she met her husband Lou Barnard.
During her years raising a family in Rushville, "Pg" taught a generation of children to swim through the Red Cross Learn to Swim program. She served as a Girl Scout leader and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, knitting, bicycling and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Louis F. Barnard in 2006.
She is survived by and will be remembered lovingly by her three daughters, Tonni Carrigan of Kingsport, Tennessee, Lessa Kent of Black Mountain, North Carolina; Kammi Barnard of Fort Worth, Texas; and three grandchildren, Clint and Tracy Morgan and Todd Carrigan.
A private remembrance is planed for a future date.
