Joyce I. "Jill" Bowles, 61, a longtime Franklin County resident, passed away at her home Tuesday, June 10, 2014. She was born March 28, 1953 in Louisville, Kentucky, to William Burgess and Joyce (Hargrove) Burnett. She married Charles Bowles on Sept. 8, 1983 and he survives.
Jill spent her early life in Louisville and several years in Chicago. She moved to Rushville in 1983 and had lived at her home in Laurel since 1999. She was a foster parent to many children for the past several years. She had attended the Bueua Vista Christian Church and the Buena Southern Missionary Baptist Church. Jill loved crafts and fixing up old homes. She loved to go fishing, have yard sales and work puzzles.
In addition to her husband, Charles, of Laurel, she is survived by her father, Bill and wife Opal Burgess of Royal Oak, Michigan; son, Larry Wayne and wife Amanda Jo Fugate of Rushville; daughters, Dawn Fugate of Jackson, Kentucky and Yvonne and husband Edgar Hankins of Rushville; step son, Charles Bowles Jr. and wife Lisa of Westport; step daughters, Diana and husband Wesley Rose of Laurel and Jennifer and husband Patrick Shannon of Fairland; brothers, Michael and wife Edith Burgess of Greensburg, Billy Burnett Jr. and Robert Lee Burnett both of Nevada;, sister-in-laws, Dorethea Conway of Indianapolis and Jan Burton of Rushville; 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; brother, Todd Burgess; and a sister, Lucille Barnett.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Brother Rob Edwards will preside. Friends are welcome to visit from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Laurel North Cemetery.
