RUSHVILLE — Lawrence William (Larry) Cherry, 75, of Rushville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville.

Larry was born June 4, 1937, in Rushville, the son of William Weldon and Marjorie Louise (Winslow) Cherry.

He was a 1955 graduate of Arlington High School and attended Ball State University. Larry was a US Navy veteran, serving on the USS Midway from 1956 to 1960. On March 22, 1959, he married June Eileen Posey in Arlington. He was employed at American Red Ball in Indianapolis, working in the accounting department, and retired in 2000 after 36 years of service.

He was a member of Family Worship Center in Rushville where he served as a board member and he led worship services for 30 years. He was a former member of Rushville Church of the Nazarene where he served as Choir Director and Sunday School superintendent. He loved singing and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and was an avid sports fan cheering for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pacers, Colts and the Rushville Lions. He especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, grand dogs, his dog Pepper, and friends.

He is survived by his wife, June Eileen Cherry of Rushville; sons, John W. (Kelly) Cherry of Rushville and Eric K. (Sarah) Cherry of Indianapolis; daughters, Karina L. McDonald of Rushville, Reba D. (Tom) Newhouse of Rushville and Erin E. (Jon) Pace of Seymour; 12 grandchildren, Amanda (Ed) Capps, Melisa (Ryan) Berkemeier, Craig (Kayla) Newhouse, Seth (Shelby) Newhouse, Hali Newhouse, Josephine, Jonelle and Jenna Pace, Bradley, Erica, William and John Cherry; five great-grandchildren, Clayton Griffith, Dalton Wallace, Trenton Capps, Bryce Berkemeier and Anna Rae Newhouse; one brother, Phillip A. (Phyllis) Cherry of Rushville; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Family Worship Center, 1002 W. 1st Street, Rushville, where Rev. Darryl Cooper will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the service time Tuesday at the church.

Cremation rites will be accorded after the service.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Family Worship Center of Rushville, Rushville Animal Shelter, Seymour Christian Academy, or the donor’s choice.
