RUSHVILLE — Benno L. Harpring, 81, of Rushville, died July 24, 2013.
Benno was born Sept. 11, 1931 in Rush County to the late Benno J. and Rose M. (Naderman) Harpring. He married Antoinette M. Hartman Aug. 24, 1955; she survives. His loving family includes three sons, Benno "Frank" (Karen Eder) Harpring, Mark G. (Karen Ellis) Harpring of Rushville, Steven T. (Lisa Thompson) Harpring of Morristown; one daughter, Diane K. (Elbert) Gordon of Rushville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandsons; a brother, Norbert Harpring; and a sister, Helen Navarra also survive.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Heckman, Alberta Harpring and Norma Streit.
Benno graduated from Rushville High School in 1949, playing on the high school football team. He was also a graduate of Purdue Agriculture Short Course in 1951.
He served in the United States Army from 1952 through 1954. Benno was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church. He admired his wife of 57 years and truly enjoyed his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Benno was a lifetime Rush County farmer, who had a great interest in old farm equipment. He also loved popcorn, sweet corn and growing corn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10a.m. July 27 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremy Gries officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. July 26 at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory, Rushville with the rosary at 3:45 p.m.
