Gene Norman Johnson, 83, of Vevay, Ind., died at 5:09 p.m., Oct. 24, 2013, at the Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville. He was born on July 29, 1930, in Rush County, the son of Alva G. and Susan Elizabeth (Scholl) Johnson.
He was raised in New Salem, where he was a 1948 graduate of New Salem High School.
Gene was inducted into the United States Navy Reserves, serving during the Korean War. Gene co-owned and co-operated the Roxano's Restaurant in Vevay. He owned and operated the East-Way Auto Parts Store in Seymour. He was a former customer service representative for Central Rubber & Supply in Indianapolis.
Survivors include companion Donna L. Richards of Vevay; sons Michael G. Johnson of Indianapolis, Mark J. Johnson and his wife Jessica of Brown County; daughter: Michelle Schilling of Indianapolis; step-daughters, Sherry L. Francis of Anderson, Tina Leas and her husband Gregg of Madison, Cate Burton and her husband Doug of Lexington, Ky.; step-son: Roy Richards and his wife, Rebecca of Vevay; 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; brother, Thomas Johnson of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews.Memorial services are at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay.
