Virginia Mae Shanahan, 96, a life long Rushville resident, passed away March 25, 2014 at Rush Memorial Hospital. She was born June 11, 1917 in Rushville to Chester and Mary (Irvine) Gallimore. Virginia married William A. Shanahan on Jan. 5, 1938 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1984.
Virginia was a long time member of the St. Mary Catholic Church where she was active in the Guild and Daughter's of Isabella. She worked as a medical assistant in the 1960's at Hillside Haven and also worked at Max Fancher's Laundrymat in the 1970's. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet.
She is survived by a son, Philip E. and wife Linda Shanahan of Rushville; daughters, Nancy and husband Rex Ratekin and Rose Marie and husband Robert Houze all of Rushville; sister, Katherine Stewart of Rushville; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, C. Robert Gallimore.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, with Rev. Jeremy Gries presiding. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening, March 28. A Rosary will be recited at 3:45p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Rushville.
