Lawrence Gabbard, 76, a life long resident of Laurel, passed away Jan. 12, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born Feb. 19, 1937 in Franklin County to Sherman and Helen (Green) Gabbard. Lawrence married Mildred Riley in November of 1959 and she survives.
Lawrence retired in 1995 from JC Wilson Engineering, Inc. where he was a machinist. He worked there 28 years making parts for space shuttles. He had been awarded many times by astronauts for his work and dedication. He and his wife Mildred have owned and operated the Laurel Hotel for the past 25 years. Lawrence was a member of the Laurel Masonic Lodge F & AM.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Rodney Gabbard and companion Jamie Baker of Laurel, Jerry Gabbard of Berea, Ky. and Robert and wife Vicki Swininger of Laurel; daughters, Jacqueline and husband David Hornaday of Rushville, Vicki and husband Roger Johnson of Laurel and Tara and husband Brian Bowling of Connersville; a brother, Kenneth and wife Mary Gabbard of Connersville; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and special friend, James Gray "Cheesie" of Laurel.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Larry Gabbard; brother, Fred; and sister, Carolyn Bulmer.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, where friends are welcome to visit from 10 a.m. until time of service. There will be masonic rites at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, prior to service. Eric Hopkins will preside. Burial will be in the Laurel North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
