Donald R. Holbert, 91, of Glenwood, passed away Tuesday Jan. 7, 2014 at his residence. Born March 16, 1922 in Wayne County, he is the son of the late Clarence and Eva Ellison Holbert. On Oct. 1, 1943, he married Ethel Bulmer in Andersonville.
Donald and Ethel recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII. He had worked at Stant Manufacturing for 10 years, retiring in 1980. He also had worked at Roots Blower Company for 17 years prior. He was a farmer, built houses and did carpenter work. Donald served on the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department , the Glenwood Town Board and was a member of the Glenwood Church of Christ. Donald enjoyed playing euchre, camping and fishing and spent many winters in Florida.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Margaret (Norman) Barron of Connersville and Wanda (Ardie) Estes of Connersville; four grandchildren, Kenneth Ray (Christine) Curry, Barbara Madden and her fiance Jimmy Stanley, Rick (Cindy) Emmel and Tina (Dave) Smith; 10 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Alma Philbrick and a granddaughter, Laura Faye Selby.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Urban Winkler Funeral Home with Pastor David Bonne and Pastor Rob Edwards officiating. Burial with military graveside services will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Rush County. Friends and family may gather from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
