---- — Robert L. “Bobbie Lee” Smith, 76, of New Salem, passed away Dec. 28, 2013.

Born Oct. 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Laurence and Lymira (Wilk) Smith. He graduated in 1955 from New Salem High School. He took a Purdue University short course and became a farmer. He and his brother operated the family grain bin business Laurence Smith & Sons. He was a member of the Little Flatrock Christian Church, Phoenix Lodge # 62 F&AM (50 year) and New Salem Lions Club. He love to fly ultra-lites, fish, snowmobiling, quail hunting, bowling and woodworking.

He married Judith Clements May 28, 1960 and she survives. They were blessed with two sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) Smith and Gary (Tammy) Smith both of Rush County; seven grandchildren Penny (Brandon) Owens, Samantha, Anna, Laura, Jared, Shelbi and Cody; three great grandchildren Gwendolyn, Madison and Aubrey.

Three sisters, Rita Hamrick of Avon, Sharon, (Ron) Harper of Rushville, Linda (Bob) Sloo of Brownsburg; one brother Byron “Jim Bob” (Cathy) Smith of Rush County; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday Jan. 3, at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory with Rev. Patrick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Rushville’s Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Gries officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral centre.

Memorials may be made to Little Flatrock Christian Church or St. Mary Catholic Church.
