Rick Whittaker, 59, a longtime Rush County resident, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013, in Milroy.
Rick was born Dec. 30, 1953, in Rushville to Charles E. and Mildred (Lee) Whitaker. He was a 1972 graduate of Rushville High School. Rick lived most of his life in Rush County apart from living several years in Louisiana and Texas, returning to Rush County in 1994.
He worked the starting gates at many horse racing tracks across the country including tracks in Shelbyville, Anderson and Louisville, Ky. Rick enjoyed fishing, horses and horse racing and loved Louisiana Cajun food.
Rick leaves behind his mother, Mildred Whittaker of Rushville; son, Nathan Whittaker and wife Carmen of Rushville; daughter, Brandy and husband Brian Rudicil of Rushville; brothers, Ed Whittaker and wife Carolyn and Mike Whittaker, both of Rushville, and Scott Whittaker and wife Beth of Milroy; sisters, Grace Lavonne “Sis” and husband Richard Paugh of Rushville and Candi Whittaker of Rush County; several nieces and nephews; and 11 grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Charles Whittaker, Rick was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Whittaker.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Pastor Leonard Cranfill will preside. Friends are welcome to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
