Lavada E. Tranbarger, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away Feb. 11, 2014. She was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Lawrenceburg to the late Carl and Augusta Hillig Liggett. Lavada was a 1945 graduate of Rushville High School. She married Rex Tranbarger and he preceded her in death June 17, 2013.
Lavada joined Eli Lilly & Co. in 1949, shipping pharmaceuticals worldwide, and later doing legal research for trademark registration and patents throughout the world. She retired after over 37 years of service. Lavada and Rex traveled to Israel, the Holy Land, Jordan, Egypt, Italy and the Netherlands.
Lavada was a longtime member of Tuxedo Park Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Eva Martin Circle, where she held various offices. Lavada was an avid gardener, loved animals and raised Norwegian Elkhounds.
Lavada is survived by her sister, Betty Jean (Jim) Martin; sisters-in-law, Lois and Wanda Liggett; brother-in-law, Ray (Sharon) Tranbarger; and several nieces and nephews. Lavada’s stepmother, Leona Liggett, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at Hannegan Cemetery, Rushville.
