Harold V. Johnting, 84, a lifelong resident of Rushville, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in Indianapolis.
He was born July 22, 1928, in Rushville, to Vernon Johnting and Mary Blanche (Elder) Feldmaier. He married Frieda Herbert Aug. 23, 1968; she survives.
Harold served in the US Navy for 20 years, retiring as an E6. He served on the James C. Owens and the Rodman. He was enlisted during both World War II and the Korean War. Harold was stationed in many different location overseas throughout his enlistment. After retiring from the Navy, Harold returned to Rushville and worked many years as a salesman and driver for Craven Frozen Foods. Harold was a member of American Legion Post #150 and the former Rushville VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Frieda of Rushville; sons, Michael H. and wife Angela Johnting of Peru and Scott A. Johnting of Rushville; grandchildren, Austin Scott and Brendan Johnting and Rheannon Graham Hipsher; and great-grandchildren, Kelsie and Katie Hipsher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Friends are welcome to visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Rush County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
