Roberta Olga “Toots” Stoner Bell, 77, of Hanover, Ind., formerly of Madison, Ind., died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Hanover Health & Rehab Center in Hanover.

Born Aug. 3, 1931, in Jefferson County, Ind., she was the daughter of John A. and Stella Cooley Stoner, both of whom preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bell resided in Jefferson County nearly all her life and was a 1949 graduate of Madison High School. She began working for Ewing Von Almon Milk Plant as a milk tester and then later began working at Conn Organ Company and was on of it’s first employees. She later worked at the Madison Consolidated Junior High as a cook for several years. She worked for Lodge Bros. Furniture in Madison for 16 years. She spent the remainder of her life helping her husband minister to people in the United Methodist Churches and communities. She enjoyed serving the parishes in Monroe City, Kent, Pisgah, Deputy, Shoals, Milroy and Ohio Chapel United Methodist Churches. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed quilting. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Howard V. Bell of Hanover; son, the Rev. Robert E. Schultz of Madison; daughter, Patricia A. Couch of Muncie; stepdaughter, Pamela J. Glaspie of Durango, Colo.; sister, Mary E. Bennett of Madison; grandchildren, Brenna Brown and fiancee Gary Cassiday, Robert Channing Schultz and companion Jackie, Mallory Nichole Schultz and companion Kenneth Baker, Danielle Elizabeth Schultz; stepgrandchildren, Jayson V. Bell, Richard Aaron Glaspie and his wife Rebecca, Kevin Daniel Glaspie and his wife, Kayleigh; great-grandson, Bryson Aaron Glaspie and wife Rebecca; and step great-granddaughter, Rachael Glaspie; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepson, John V. Bell; sisters, Carly Davis, Catherine Wilson, Glenna Courtney and Marie “Edie” Hereford; brothers, Jesse, Rueben, Edward, John Wesley, Richard, Gerald “Dave”, Elbert and Weburn Stoner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 412 West Main Street, in Madison, with the Rev. Don. G. Bradley, District Superintendent the Rev. Brian C. White and the Rev. Randy Jungkurth. Interment will be in Brooksburg Cemetery in Brooksburg, Ind. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison and from 9 a.m. to the time of service Tuesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Education Fund, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
