---- — For the 11th year in a row, area children in need of a new or gently worn coat will have the opportunity to pick one out at no cost. Rush County deputy Dave Sliger recently announced that the local F.O.P along with members of the Rushville Fire Department will host a “Coat’s for Kids” event.

Currently coat collections are being held at the various locations. New and gently worn coats can be dropped off at the RCSD (131) East First Street, the Rushville Police Department (270 West 15th Street) and the Rushville Republican office (126 South Main Street). Coats will be collected until the end of business Oct. 25 at the aforementioned locations.

“Once again Dean Dry Cleaners in Shelbyville has agreed to clean the coats at no charge, prior to the give-away. This is the ninth year in a row they have stepped up and offered their services to us for this very worthwhile effort,” Sliger said earlier this week.

As a result of the recent drop in temperatures, many area youth have been found donning warm wraps at the bus stop and cooler temperatures are on the way.

Deputy Sliger continued by saying that the coats will be given away Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at the F.O.P. building located behind the Rushville Fire Department in the 200 block of East Second Street.

In recent years, more than 100 coats have been given away at each event and this year, organizers are expecting another good turnout.
