Connersville resident Steven Seckman, 50, escaped serious injury in a Tuesday morning single-vehicle accident on Fort Wayne Road. Shortly after 9:30 a.m., and for unknown reasons, Seckman’s northbound 1990 Ford F150 pickup truck left the east side of the rural road.
The vehicle entered a steep side ditch on the east side of the road, struck a glancing blow to fencing and traveled nearly 100 yards before striking two corner posts and a tree. The force of the impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, rendering it inoperable.
Prior to emergency responders arrival, Seckman exited the vehicle and refused medical attention. According to investigating officer ISP trooper Mike Ooley, once the vehicle left the road, the initial investigation found the driver made no attempt to slow down and may have inadvertently kept his foot on the gas pedal rather than the brake.
As a result of the investigation, cleanup process and removing the vehicle from the tree, Fort Wayne Road was closed for nearly 30 minutes to north and south bound traffic.
Responding to the accident were units from the ISP, Rush County Sheriff Department, Rushville Police Department, RMH Ambulance and Davis Towing.
