Chamber names Meyer to task force

---- — Sandy Fussner, Director of the Rush County Chamber of Commerce, has announced that Karen Meyer, Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Rush Memorial Hospital, was unanimously selected to represent the Chamber on the new Private Sector/Pubic Education Task Force during the Chamber’s September Board of Directors meeting.

Meyer also serves as member of the Chamber’s Board.

The initial purpose of the Task Force is to develop ways for the private sector and public education to work together to help increase student awareness of real world employer expectations in a variety of professions available locally.

“I think it makes very good sense to look for ways that business and industry can work with the school corporation to help young people understand what’s required, not just in terms of skill sets, but also soft skills and post high school training. We’ve had students doing job shadowing here at Rush Memorial for some time, but there’s no reason why job shadowing and other initiatives can’t be extended to other employers in the county,” Meyer said.

Other nominations to the Task Force are expected to be announced in the very near future.

Ken Masters, who will represent county government on the Task Force, said he was enthused about the prospects of businesses and the school corporation working together.

“We know young people need more than a high school education if they hope to really succeed. This Task Force is a great beginning to help young people realize what they need to do,” Masters said.
