Milroy kids get Buggy for Books

Sign ups underway

Milroy area kids are hitting the books a little early in preparation for back to school. The Zeta Tau Chapter of Psi Iota Xi is once again sponsoring their annual Psi Ote Summer Reading Program at the Milroy Elementary School Library.

“Now that the fair and those 4H projects are done, it’s time to be enjoying the dog-days of summer with a good book. It’s a great opportunity for kids to sharpen their reading skills before school starts and have some fun, too!” states Shelly King, Psi Ote Summer Ready chairperson.

“Buggy for Books” is this year’s reading program that challenges students to read a set amount of minutes each week on subjects that are of most interest to them. Students track their progress and are rewarded for achieving reading goals while enjoying a special activities program once a week from special speakers and Psi Ote volunteers who advocate for literacy in our own community.

Students ages three and up are invited to attend from 10:30 a.m. to noon each Tuesday and Thursday, July 9-25. Each Tuesday will feature a special program, snacks, crafts and an opportunity to check out books to read at home.

Zeta Tau is a chapter of national philanthropic organization Psi Iota Xi supporting literature, music and the arts in the Milroy area and in Rush County. For more information or to sign up for this year’s summer reading program, contact Dianna Owen, 765-932-2721.
