---- — SHELBYVILLE – Congressman Luke Messer filed for re-election to represent Indiana’s 6th Congressional District.

“I have been honored to represent the people of Indiana’s 6th Congressional district this past year, and I ask for their support again,” Messer said. “Together, we can continue the fight for common-sense spending reductions and policies that promote job growth.”

“These are tough times for far too many families,” Messer continued. “But, most of America’s biggest challenges would be fixed with a healthy economy. Simply put: we need leaders who will fight for the policies that help grow jobs. I will work tirelessly toward that goal.”

Since being elected by his peers as the Republican Freshman Class President, Congressman Messer has worked to bridge partisan divides by increasing communications and activities between the Republican and Democrat Freshman class members.

Congressman Messer serves on three committees in the House of Representatives, including Committees on Budget, Foreign Affairs, and Education and the Workforce. In the first few months of his first term, Congressman Messer passed two bills in the U.S. House of Representatives. The first piece of legislation adds transparency to the budget-drafting process. The second piece of legislation adds transparency to Higher Education, allowing individuals to have access to better information when deciding which college or university to attend. Messer said, “Both of these bills provide movement in the right direction as we strive to bring greater accountability to Washington, D.C.”

Messer was first elected to Congress in 2012, winning an 8-way Primary election and nearly 60% of the vote in the General election. Indiana’s 6th Congressional District is located in east-central and southeastern Indiana and includes Bartholomew, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hancock, Henry, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Randolph, Ripley, Rush, Scott, Shelby, Switzerland, Union and Wayne counties.
