Several scholarships and grants given by the Rush Co. Community Foundation are nearing deadline in the next few weeks.
Jan. 31 the CIRCLe Fund Grand is due at 4 p.m. Following next is Feb. 4, when applications for Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, Cycle I Community Grant, Shane Young Memorial Soccer Fund Grant, Rush County Youth Athletic Fund Grant and Rush County Parks Fund Grant are due.
Alisa Henderson, Executive Director of RCCF, says the final deadline is in March for the last grants and scholarships.
“Applicants will find out in May if they received the grant or scholarship,” Henderson said. “It’s incredible the money applicants have received over the past few years.”
Since the first scholarship was awarded, more than $905,000 from local scholarship funds have been given to Rush County students. As far as grants, since the first grant in 1995 nearly $8,000 in funds has been given to local non-profit organizations.
Since 2011, around 314 scholarships were awarded to students who applied.
“I don’t think people realize how many grants we give to local non-profit organizations as well as scholarships to local students,” Henderson stated. “We try to give grants to organizations with projects that are going to benefit the community. We want the community to benefit from the money we give out.”
Money for grants and scholarships come from donors and are invested.
“We have lots of donors who have made the foundation what it is today,” Henderson said. “If it wasn’t for the donors we have had now and throughout the years we wouldn’t be here today.”
