Coats for Kids collection underway

RUSHVILLE — The 10th annual Rush County “Coats for Kids” collection is currently underway with a number of drop-off points recently announced by Rush County Sheriff’s Department deputy and F.O.P. member Dave Sliger.

New and gently worn coats can be dropped off at the RCSD  (131 East First Street), the Rushville Police Department (270 West 15th Street), The 309 Building (formerly King’s Family Book Store, 309 North Main Street) and the Rushville Republican office, 126 South Main Street.

Partnering with the local F.O.P. chapter this year are members of the Rushville Fire Department in an effort to provide warm winter wear for area youth.

For the eighth consecutive year, Dean Dry Cleaners in Shelbyville has agreed to clean collected coats free of charge prior to the give-away.

With cooler temperatures in the immediate forecast, many area youngsters have already began donning coats at area bus stops.

Sliger said the coats will be given away free of charge Saturday, Nov. 3 at the F.O.P. building located in the 200 block of West Second Street, in the rear of the RFD.

During the 2011 local Coats for Kids event, more than 120 coats and jackets were distributed free of charge to Rush County youth in need of a warm coat.

“Last year was another success story for what has become an annual event locally. We are expecting another big distribution again this year,” Sliger said.

Sliger can be contacted at (765) 932-2931 for additional information regarding the Coats for Kids campaign.
