Circus coming to town Wednesday

Big Top will be set up at Rushville Conservation Club

RUSHVILLE — The thrill and excitement of the circus returns to Rush County Wednesday, May 15 as the Rush County Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Kelly Miller Circus back to town.

“Everyone’s invited to come out and watch the animals being unloaded and fed, and the elephants as they raise the big top,” Chamber director Sandy Fussner said.

Those planning to attend should keep in mind that the circus will be set up on the grounds of the Rushville Conservation Club, just east of Rushville on State Road 44, and not at the Rush County Fairgrounds as has been the case in years past.

Activities Wednesday morning will get underway around 7:30 a.m. The elephants and circus employees will raise the big top at 9 a.m.

Two performances are scheduled, one at 4:30 and the other at 7:30 p.m.

The Kelly Miller Circus is an “old style” circus that dates back to the Great Depression. In fact, this year is the Kelly Miller Circus’ 74th anniversary.

This year’s circus features tigers, elephants, horses and international circus performers under a traditional big top tent.

“We hope everyone will come out and enjoy the show as this is a fundraiser for the Chamber,” Fussner said. “Please buy your tickets in advance and save! We get a percentage of all advance ticket sales, but we get very little back from tickets sold the day of the circus. It’s very important that everyone buys their tickets early so we can maximize what we make from bringing this to town.”

Savings are substantial if you purchase your tickets in advance.

Tickets sold in advance are $6 for children and $10 for adults; the cost increases to $7 for children and $17 for adults the day of the show.

Advance tickets to Wednesday’s circus can be purchased at the Rush County Chamber of Commerce office, Public Paint & Wallpaper, Rushville Pharmacy and MainSource Bank.
