Rushville Republican

RUSHVILLE — Congratulations to Michael Kontos, who is the Benjamin Rush Middle School champion for this year’s National Geographic Bee.

Kontos is the returning champion who has now captured the school championship two years in a row!

After winning the school level contest for two consecutive years, Kontos took a written test and qualified for the state finals of the competition for the second time in a row.

The state level is reserved for only the top 100 students.

If Kontos can win the state contest in Indianapolis April 5, he will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. May 22 to compete in the national event.

The national event boasts a grand prize of a $25,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

This year’s Bee is sponsored by Google.
